What Goes Into a Mobile Dental Unit

Every unit starts with a welded steel-cage body on a commercial chassis, then gets the dental package your program needs. On our current units that includes:

  • Dental chairs and stools for the dentist and assistant, with an equipment cart or delivery unit (for example a DCI Series 5 chair and Midmark cart).
  • Dental air compressor and vacuum system, such as a Midmark P32 compressor and Air Techniques Mojave MT10 vacuum on the InTech trailers.
  • Sinks, sharps containers, an eye wash station and locking upper and lower cabinets with solid-surface counters.
  • Rooftop air conditioning, heaters and powered roof vents, so the treatment room stays comfortable year-round.
  • A generator plus shore power connections, so the unit can run on site or plugged in.
  • Wheelchair lifts, accessible double doors and assist rails on the ADA models.

Who Uses Mobile Dental Clinics

Mobile dental units take preventive care, screenings, cleanings and treatment to schools, rural communities, senior housing, shelters and community events, for community health centers, dental schools, health departments and nonprofits.

If your program also needs medical, behavioral health or lab space, a combined unit like the 40 ft clinic with dental, blood draw and exam rooms keeps it on one vehicle.

Mobile Dental Clinic Questions

How many operatories can a mobile dental unit have?

Our current line-up runs from a single operatory on a Ford E-450 to two operatories on a 28 ft or 37 ft unit, and a 40 ft clinic that pairs a dental room with blood draw and exam rooms. Pre-owned InTech dental trailers carry two to three operatories.

Do you sell used mobile dental clinics?

Yes. Pre-owned dental units and trailers are listed above when we have them, and on our used mobile clinics page. We also take trade-ins: see sell or trade in your unit.

Can a mobile dental unit be wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The 28 ft two-operatory unit and the 37 ft two-room unit both have a certified 800 lb Braun wheelchair lift and a wheelchair-accessible double door into the treatment room.

How long does a new mobile dental unit take?

Most builds deliver in about 90 days. Units in stock can go out sooner: see immediate delivery.

How do organizations pay for a mobile dental clinic?

Programs combine grants, foundation gifts, health-system budgets and leasing. Our funding guide and grant funding pages list where to start, and our leasing program spreads the cost.
